Evaluate the following scenario: I was pulled into one of the main offices in front of some higher ups, it was a casual meeting where people were joking around, like a meeting before a meeting. My boss started to joke about how I’m slow like a tortoise and can’t get any work done, also mentioning how he can’t get me to work any overtime. At some point the conversation changed to how I recently met a guy online playing COD and how we’re friends that golf together. I am a straight man that’s brand new to this city and I have been happy to meet people. My boss left out all the details and only mentioned that I had started “going on dates with men I’m meeting online”.

The scenario you have described is concerning and unprofessional. It is not appropriate for a boss to make derogatory or mocking comments about an employee's work performance, regardless of whether it is done in a casual or formal setting. This behavior can create a hostile work environment and damage employee morale and productivity.

Furthermore, your boss's comments about your personal life were inappropriate and potentially discriminatory. It is not acceptable for an employer to make assumptions or spread rumors about an employee's sexual orientation or personal relationships. This can create a hostile work environment and may even be considered harassment.

It would be advisable for you to speak to someone in HR or a higher-up in the company to report the incident and seek guidance on how to handle it. It may also be helpful to document the incident and any other instances of unprofessional behavior from your boss in case further action needs to be taken.
