## The Format

The World Schools Debating Championships is a format that is used around the world in which two teams, the proposition and the opposition, debate around a specific statement called a motion. There are 6 8 minute speeches given by the members of each team, followed by one 4 minute speech called the reply.     - People are with high socioeconomic status from developed countries are likely to be interested in these visa programs
        - they have the wealth to be able to buy real estate in developing countries as they are cheaper to buy real estate

## Mechanism

The mechanism is how you will do things. This is usually only given in policy motions (motions that propose laws or changes to systems) to explain how the end goals that the house proposes will be achieved. For example, in the motion “THW Implement a Social Credit Score”, the mechanism may look like “By creating an independent organization that is democratically elected that sets the criteria for the scores which will then be carried out by a government organization”. The mechanism is usually only given by the Proposition and is not given in most cases.

## Metrics

Metrics are how the judges measure which side of the house won the debate, they are sentences that set what the sides of the house need to prove in impacts to win the debate. In the motion “THW Implement a Golden Visa Program,” the metrics would look like

- Which side of the house promotes equality in migration
- Which side of the house creates a more equal and beneficial narrative

## Arguments

Arguments in the World Schools Debating Championship format use the following structure, writing each point in bullet-point format and in short, concise sentences.

The statement is the main claim of the argument. It is what the argument will prove, for example, a sentence for a debate about the color of the sky could be “The sky is blue because of how light works”.

The analysis is where the evidence is analyzed and where it’s importance and relevance to the debate is explained.

The link is linking back the analysis to the statement, i.e. saying how the evidence proves the statement

Impacts come after the arguments and link the premises of the argument to the metrics
